Project Overview
The Taft School’s circa-1939 building needed a major mechanical systems upgrade as well as a roof replacement. Ridgeworth Roofing provided the lowest qualified bid during a public bid process and was then contracted to Berglund Construction Company for the project. Scott Piper of SPM Architects served as architect. Working on a tight schedule with several other trades assigned to the project, the Ridgeworth team tore off two roof areas. The roofers replaced the old sections with a double-layered, fully adhered insulation system with staggered joints, which will allow the school to achieve maximum energy efficiencies. They then applied a fully adhered, fleece-backed Carlisle EPDM roof system with a 20-year warranty. The new roof meets current energy code requirements, and mechanicals were improved both under and on the roof of one section.
