Project Overview

Barclay Products Limited, an innovative decorative bath products supplier in Gurnee, Illinois, had an older ballasted EPDM roof that had reached the end of its serviceable life. The roof of the nearly 30-year-old, 100,000-square-foot building was leaking.

“We knew we needed a new roof,” says Michael Berger of Barclay Products.

As the company began the process of searching for a professional roofing contractor, trusted friend Harvey Cohen, president  of Magid Glove and Safety, recommended Ridgeworth Roofing. Ridgeworth had installed a new TPO roof system on Magid Glove and Safety’s 620,000-square-foot building in 2016. Harvey invited representatives from Barclay Products to his facility to see the 14-acre roof, and they decided they wanted the same type of roof for their building.“[Harvey is] a very smart guy and he did thorough research of the roofing system and roofing companies,” says Michael. “We took Harvey’s word for it and came right to Ridgeworth.”

Barclay Products invited Ridgeworth to bid on the project, and, although Ridgeworth was not the lowest bidder, they negotiated with the building owner to find an agreeable price and were awarded the project. Ridgeworth began work in April 2018.

The Ridgeworth team traveled the more than 80 miles to the Barclay Products facility in Gurnee and began by removing 600 tons of roof ballast. They then installed new insulation, followed by a new Johns Manville TPO roof system with all new sheet metal. Despite some delays due to late-April snowstorms, Ridgeworth completed the project in May. Day-to-day work continued in the building throughout the process, without interruption.

“It went very smoothly,” says Michael. “…We barely saw them, we hardly heard them, and everything was done quickly and efficiently.”

Michael says he’s absolutely satisfied with the finished product.

“So far it doesn’t seem like there’s any water leaking. We got the sign offs no problem from the village, and we got the warranty. I’m thinking it should be a good thing,” he says. “[Ridgeworth Roofing] takes a process you’re not really familiar with and they made it very easy.”
